Cubism and geometry

Imagen
Cubism is considered the first vanguard, since it breaks with perspective. In cubist pictures, traditional perspective disappears. It treats the shapes of nature by means of geometric figures, fragmenting lines and surfaces. The so-called "multiple perspective" is adopted: all the parts of an object are represented in the same plane. Picasso will also be interested in avant-garde science that at the moment pays attention to non-Euclidean geometry and the fourth dimension. The impact of non-Euclidean geometries on the philosophical thought of the time will be enormous because they questioned the positivist conception of science and supported the idea of the relativity of knowledge. What arises at this time is that, from an intellectual point of view, it was possible the existence of multiple geometries in coexistence with the Euclidean. The colors at this time were not interesting because the important thing was the different points of view and the geometrization, not ...

Geometrical Curiosities

Imagen
In this post I will expose some curiosities of different areas that have in common some relationship with geometric figures: The sewer covers are circular and not square, because a square drain cover could slip through the hole and fall into the drain, when we turn it to the side. The largest geometric solid made by man is the pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and was built in the 25th century BC. It has a height of 138m and the square base has a side 230m. It covers an area of 54,000 m 2 and was made with more than two million blocks of stone, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons. Of all the plane figures with the same perimeter, the circle is the one with the largest area. At Expo 98, the Swiss flag could see a hypercube.

Geometry and fashion

Imagen
One of the most unsuspected places where you could find maths in haute couture, and yet have always been related, in many images are represented costumes with basic geometric figures, for example in Egyptian mural painting we find many geometric elements, the pectorals are circles, the crowns of Upper Egypt cones, the skirts (cylinders) ..., the omnipresent symmetry of the wardrobe, with the axis at the center of the chest. In the catwalks, the geometry is very present, in any design we can find some figurative geometrical form, the stylists try to look for a perfection and a symmetry conjugating the figures with the garments The symmetry is related to fashion since both designers seek perfection and mathematicians seek mathematical perfection

Geometry in real life

Imagen
The dictionary says that geometry is the study of the properties and measurements of figures in the plane or in space. Cities, neighborhoods, streets, squares and even our homes fit this definition adequately, extending it to the concept of urban geometry. The urban landscape is pure geometry, where architecture, geography, civil engineering, sociology, demography, economics and other disciplines are related to order and size spaces. In fact, when we look at the urban landscape, based on the very definition of geometry, it is easy to see that it breaks down into countless geometric figures (rectangles, cubes, curves, ellipses, etc.) that, taken as a whole, are the ones that get Shape it, making it different from other places and giving it a unique personality that allows the observer to define it. In our daily life, perhaps we do not realize it, but we are surrounded by geometric figures, everywhere and in everything we see we can find a circle, a triangle, a hexagon, the questi...

AGAMOGRAPH

Imagen
The agamograph is a type of optical art that owes its name and popularity to the Israeli artist Yaacob Agam. The agamographs are formed by images, order of different form and with different hidden figures that appear depending on the position. The first thing is to fold a zigzag folio, like an accordion. To find the appropriate measure of the zigzag, calculations are made and a rule is used. Then fold the other folio in half and cut it so that you get two sheets. You can make different figures with both the folio and what you draw on paper, the final result will be a series of figures or images that will seem messy but depends on the position they will make sense.

MUSIC AND GEOMETRY

Imagen
Three US music professors from the University of Florida have devised a new way of analyzing and classifying music through its representation through geometric figures. Researchers have developed the "theory of geometric music," a method that translates musical language into contemporary geometry, as published in the latest issue of the journal Science. The method consists in taking a series of notes, such as chords, rhythms and scales, and classifying them so that they can be grouped into "families". Music teachers assign a mathematical structure to each of these families, in such a way that they can be represented by points in complex geometric spaces. The different types of classification produce different geometric figures, and allow to reflect how musicians have understood music throughout the centuries. Researchers hope that their theory helps to analyze and understand music better. The teacher considers that the geometric spaces that they genera...

Art and geometry, related worlds

Imagen
If we look at a painting, for example from Kandinsky, we will see that he has a lot of mathematics. In the first years, art can be resource to learn geometry.  Geometry is a fundamental part of our society, has been presented in history and culture. It is applied in all sciences and branches of knowledge. Of course it is also present in the artistic manifestations, so it is important to talk about geometry in art.  Primary especially the kids like crafts, drawings... spend a lot of time doing from elementary mathematics and geometric figures in their drawings, children will begin to familiarize with the differents types of figures.

Geometry at home

Imagen
Since we was children we have always played with geometry, maybe without realizing. Nowadays, children play a lot of video games and do not play as in the past, with their own hands, building and with differents figures.  I remember when I played as a child, we had some plastic figures that fix between them and we could form buildings or similar things, these figures new shaped like triangles, rectangles, stars...  These type of games I think suit you well for children, because since childhood are familiar with geometric shapes, besides that this type of games can help your motor development and have fun.

Geometric handicrafts

Imagen
Thinking about how to do some activity that for children was not too boring, I thought to do activities related to geometry but applying another matter or something to make them more enjoyable. I think it would be a good option to make figures with cardboard of the different geometric shapes, so they will be doing crafts while learning mathematics, then with these crafts can calculate their areas, perimeters...

INTRODUCTION

Hi!! My name is Cristina, I'm studying primary education at the university of Malaga. In my free time I love watching series and stay with my family.  In this blog I hope to publish some interesting information and resources that I can use in the future. Mathematics have never been my forte, but I think with this blog I can take to learn new things and things that really serve me, I have not found anything interesting in this subject, so I hope to find it now In this blog I will share information on geometry and interest, I hope those who see my tickets, can learn new things and serve them for something.
